Young Adult Fellowship October Update

 Greetings!

We won't be meeting this month of October as we have some Schwagers down for the count with the flu going around.

So I thought I'd use this opportunity to catch us up on some links and such from the last two months.

August

  • Theme: Two years ago it was Chesterton, last year relationships, and this year...digging deeper into challenging scriptures. Our opening has revolved around interpretive monsters coming from Genesis 6: 1-4.
Genesis 6: 1-4
  • In Genesis 6, there are two pivotal considerations
    • Who were the "sons of God"?
    • Who were the Nephilim?
  • There are three basic answers we considered based on three teachers:
    • Dr. J. Vernon McGee (Biola: Presbyterian/Baptist)
      • The "sons of God"are the godly line of Adam through Seth. This contrasts to the daughters of men who represent the sinful line of Adam through Cain.
      • The Nephilim were giants, not related to the sons of God at all.
    • Dr. Peter Gentry (Southern Seminary: Baptist)
      • The "sons of God" were angels intermarrying with mortal women.
      • The Nephilim were giants, not related to the sons of God at all.
    • Pastor Douglas Wilson (New Saint Andrews: Communion of Reformed Evangelicals)
      • The "sons of God" are fallen angels marrying mortal women. The offspring are the Nephilim.
  • We considered other passages from the gospels and epistles.

The goal here is simply to consider some ideas current in society today, weigh them against scripture, and to grow in wisdom, faith, truth, and grace together.

May the Lord bless you,
