Chapel Discussion Questions: Inspired to Know God

I. Nathan Talley
  • Describe the times and places in your life where you have been inspired know God, to “taste and see that He is good.”
  • When are the times in your life when you don’t (or don’t even want to) taste and see His goodness?
  • Mr. Talley told us about King David who wrote Psalm 34 while hiding in a cave because a madman (King Saul) was trying to kill him. That was when David wrote: “Taste and see that the LORD is good.” Considering David’s experience (and perhaps your own), do you think it is easier or harder to taste/know/experience God when you are in a dark, scary, or tough place?

II. Mrs. Rivas highlighted several people who inspire her to know God.
  • Who has inspired you to know God?
  • What are you excited about or truly passionate about?
  • What have you done to really seek and know who God is? Explain in detail.
  • Whom do you seek to serve/please/honor on a daily basis?

III. Jesse West
  • What things consume most of your time and energy?
  • Whom do you turn to in times of struggle? How do they help or hinder you?
  • Why are we so willing to invest our time in things that can harm us, and not invest our time in knowing God, who benefits us?

IV. Mr. Reno
  • What are the means that God has provided for His people to enable us to grow in the knowledge of Him?
  • What are the voices in your life that are shouting over the voices calling you to God’s Kingdom?
  • What can you do to hear the voices God wants you to hear?
  • How would you respond to someone who asked you this question: “I’ve been burned by the Church, and I like developing spirituality on my own. Can’t I grow in my knowledge of God apart from all the hypocrites who claim to worship Him?”

 V. Ashley Moore
  • What word would you use to describe your relationship with God?
  • Have you settled the question of whether or not you are a Christian? If not; why not?
  • What is it that is keeping you from the pursuit of knowing God?

VI. Dr. Steve Scheibner: YouTube video “In My Seat” (15 minutes)
  • Why do you think you are here?
  • Do you believe that your life is intended to be “all about you”? Why or why not?
  • When Jesus was calling His disciples, He approached the local fishermen and asked them to follow Him and become “fishers of men”. What do you think that means?
  • What are you “fishing” for in this life? Do you need to do to settle that question?
